Italian artist Lamberto Teotino‘s work relies upon the massive use of images and photography. Particularly, the Rome-based artist explores the modes in which photography acts as the true reporter of facts while simultaneously cutting out portions of space according to what the eye of the observer wants to focus on. The artist’s research explores the dissemination of meaning alongside the conditions of an altered visual perception of the world.
The photographic series Sistema di Riferimento Monodimensionale (2011) consists of a selection of archival images. It draws its title from French philosopher and mathematician Rene Descartes’ theorem of one-dimensional coordinate system, according to whom an object is placed along the line of space. Teotino’s investigation on the loss of information in space is emphasized by the idea of leak in the environment of the picture. In the series, such result is achieved by portions of space cut out along the straight line of the space, thus having the image with a string of visual information that is missing.
